Formula changes

A CGPA conversion is attached to a regulation year, not to a university brand. When the senate or academic council amends the equation, two students from the same campus can have different official percentages.

KTU, 2023

B.Tech. 2019 regulation R6.21 used 10 × CGPA − 2.5. U.O. No. 1584/2023/KTU replaced it with CGPA × 10. A CGPA of 8.20 moved from 79.5% to 82%. Graduates can request a revised conversion certificate.

IIT Madras, 11 November 2020

Until 10 November 2020 the Senate formula was 55 + 10 × (CGPA − 6). From 11 November 2020 it is CGPA × 10. A CGPA of 8.00 moved from 75% to 80%. The institute still awards no class or rank.

VTU, 2015–2018 versus 2021 / R5

Older schemes: (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, illustration 8.20 → 74.5%. R5 / 2021: M = CGPA × 10, illustration 8.20 → 82.0%. BIT Bangalore hosts the R5 PDF used for the later rule.

Mumbai University, 2017 versus 2018

2017 CBCS: 7.1 × CGPA + 11. 2018 Choice Based CGPI: 7.25 × CGPI + 11. Third-party sites describe a 2026 shift to actual-marks certificates. That claim is not in the audited official PDFs for this build, so both circulars remain listed and dated.

How we handle a change

  1. Keep the old scheme as its own selectable row with the original source.
  2. Add the new scheme with the new source and last-verified date.
  3. Refuse to default to the newer equation for an older grade card.
  4. Record the change on this page and in docs/SOURCES.md.
